The new Municipal Plan sets the bar for the development of Reykjavík City over the next decades. It clearly states where we want to go and what medication we are going to use to get there. However, this is not just the emphasis of us smokers, or Icelanders, but it is an emphasis that is known in most parts of the West. We need to change course if we want to survive on our planet. Concepts such as climate change, pollution, waste, traffic congestion and sustainability are becoming increasingly tame in our mouths, but we may find it harder to deal with them and find solutions. Not only that; We rarely seem to agree on the paths we need to take. New Skerjafjörður is in some ways a breakthrough. Location has everything so that planning in this area can be a beacon for the development we envision in the coming decades, on land that is one of the most valuable that we citizens have at our disposal. We are breaking new land as we densify and strengthen the existing settlement.

Graeme Massie's framework planning has been a guiding principle for planning in Vatnsmýri for some time. It is somewhat our model, but we want to break it up and move away from perpendicular transport hubs and strict limbic settlements. We want softer forms, more diverse settlements and a milder complexion. We emphasize mixed urban areas, although residential areas are a priority, such as the Municipal Plan assumes. Depending on the location of the popular existing settlement in Skerjafjörður, we assume that the new settlement will bring an overture to the village. With increased urban development in Skerjafjörður, the unit becomes more sustainable, a new primary school and other services will have the opportunity to grow and prosper. The main idea is grid division where each plot has different buildings in height and form. The proximity to the beach makes the area unique and we use it to give the settlement a uniqueness and as an opportunity for residents to enjoy nature and leisure close to home. The green belt between Reykjavík Pond and Skerjafjörður opens the way for other residents of the city to enjoy the quality that the area offers. We are aware that we are building in an airport area and believe it is desirable for this activity to be found in a new settlement. It is possible that some hangars may be preserved and an indicator for an aviation museum in Reykjavík may be established. It is desirable to link the area to the Reykjavík Smart City project by installing meters and information screens to increase environmental awareness among citizens.
